The Spirit of Life for the Homeless is a Christian homeless organization with an office located in Chicago Heights. The Spirit of life organization is a 501c3 organization under the Leadership of Diana and Wendell Kendricks, who have faithfully serviced the Homeless since March of 1996. Our ministrial services are located on the westside of Chicago every first Saturday of each month at the Altgeld Park Field House from 9:30am until 2:30pm at 515 South Washtenaw.

Since May of 2008, our organization has ministered to and have provided social services to over eight hundred Homeless Men. We provide breakfast, worship services, job and housing referrals, and we have a clothing ministry. Over 20 dedicated volunteers from the Apostolic Church of God, under the leadership of Byron Brazier, assist the organization with providing services. Our short term goals are to provide a Transitional Housing unit and a Job training workshop facility for Homeless Men.

Mission Statement

The mission of THE SPIRIT OF LIFE FOR THE HOMELESS is to reintegrate the homeless men into their communities through job and educational training. Our long term goals include opening a transitional housing unit and a workforce training center.

At each outing our dedicated volunteers and myself teach and preach the Word of God. Since the first of the year over 30 men have given their lives to Christ.
Clients are learning basic computer skills: how to fill out resumes' online, how to navigate the computer to search for jobs. through out the year 50 men have received basic computer training skills.

Our goal is to provide basic math, reading and language skills training  through the use of computers.
As part of our Job Training, we teach proper interviewing skills, how to have the right attitude for being a success when searching for a job or once you are provided with a job. We provide clothing for the men consistent with dressing for success.
This year, we partnered with several agencies. Representatives from Jewel Osco came to our outing and provided health screenings, Flu shots and blood pressure checks for our clients.

  • Representatives from Heartland Alliance came out to one of our outings.
  • They signed up 30 men for enrollment into the Affordable Health Care act.
  • The Apostolic Church of God's Career Development Ministry came out to one of our outings.
  • We also partner with the Pacific Garden's Homeless shelter and the Francisco House overnight shelter.
  • This consistent with our mission to help our clients re-integrate back into society.
